IVC offers an exciting and rigorous Nursing Program for men and women who are 18 years
of age or older, in good health, and can lift over 35lbs minimum. Meeting eligibility
requires completion of the program's admission criteria and passing a pre-entrance
exam. Students must apply to the program and if selected, are invited to join a nursing
class. Currently the program accepts 60 students each semester. An AM or PM course
option will be offered to students when registering. Application periods are open
March and September of each year.
The IVC Nursing Program adheres to the same rules, regulations, and philosophy as stated in the College catalog and the program's nursing student handbook. Additional policies are required to meet both the standards by the California Board of Registered Nursing and the clinical training facilities.
The first RN class started in 1971, and 30 students graduated in 1973. The RN program has continued to graduate students every semester for over 50 years. The curriculums are continually modified to keep up with the standards of the Board of Nursing, the nursing industry, and healthcare community. This is a two-year, four-semester program whereby students are awarded an Associate of Science degree in Registered Nursing from IVC and eligible to take the national licensure exam called the NCLEX-RN.
