Talent Search was one of the greatest tools I had when graduating from high school. As a first-generation student who didn’t have anyone to guide me through my transition from high school to college, Talent Search provided me with the necessary support to embark on a new journey. Thanks to workshops and orientations, I received adequate information and materials to be a successful student. It was a relief to have support willing to help me succeed in my academic journey at high school and a college with SSS program support.

As a first-generation, low-income student, I always saw college as a faraway dream. I wanted so badly to attend a four-year institution and earn my degree, but I felt lost without help or guidance. Thankfully, I joined the Upward Bound Program during high school, which opened my eyes to the world of possibilities and opportunities in different academic fields. I was given experiences that showed me I was worthy of being in these spaces.
When I came to IVC, I was extremely thankful to be part of the SSS program. The support and guidance I had received through Upward Bound carried into college, with amazing help from counselors and staff. It is thanks to programs like these that I am now able to attend the school of my dreams something I once thought impossible just a few years ago.

SSS has helped me in many different ways from supporting me in reaching my academic goals to encouraging me to engage and socialize with like-minded students on campus. Academically, SSS greatly contributed to my success in achieving my goal of graduating from IVC in one year with my associate degree in Administration of Justice. Socially, SSS gave me the opportunity to meet new people and build lifelong friendships through activities such as fundraisers, student conferences, social gatherings, and more. Thank you to all the SSS staff for your support.
