About Lennor M. Johnson, Ed.D.

President lennor johnsonDr. Lennor M. Johnson serves as the 10th Superintendent/President for Imperial Community College District. His experience in higher education spans over twenty-five years, and he has dedicated his career to helping students achieve their educational goals and closing equity gaps. Since his arrival to Imperial Valley College as Dean of Student Services in 2016 and later Vice President of Student Services in 2018, he has played an integral role in the growth and development of the prison program, dual enrollment, food pantry, student housing, and other programs designed to address the unique needs of students who are considered foster youth, disabled, formerly-incarcerated, homeless and other disproportionately impacted populations. He has also successfully secured millions of dollars in grant funding to expand services for IVC students. Dr. Johnson has an unwavering commitment to helping underserved students overcome barriers to achieve their academic and career goals, which is evident throughout his career.

Before joining IVC, Dr. Johnson served in several leadership capacities within the higher education sector, including Campus Director, Dean, Graduate Curriculum Chair, Professor, Director of Community Relations, and Academic Advisor. As Campus Director at Bryant & Stratton College, he served as the Chief Executive Officer over two campuses (Bayshore & Milwaukee). In this role, he led several key initiatives that resulted in the Bayshore Campus being named, Campus of the Year for student service excellence; outstanding financial performance; best career placement and salary rates; lowest cohort default rate, and most improved student retention. One initiative that he spearheaded was the realignment of all first-term course offerings. This initiative was designed to better meet the needs of first-generation students and employers, with the purpose of meeting students where they are and inculcating meta-cognition skills throughout the courses. As Dean at Robert Morris University, he provided leadership in successfully repositioning the University to increase access of first- generation, veterans, athletes, out-of-state and international students. He also assisted the university in increasing full-time enrollment from 3800 to 7800 within five years. As a Chair and Professor, he researched, developed and taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses in the areas of business, change leadership, marketing and education.

Dr. Johnson is active in the community where he advocates for education reform and economic development, particularly for minoritized communities and was a recipient of the 2023 Stone of Hope Award in Imperial County. He currently serves as a member of the Imperial Rotary Club, and he is a participant in the Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee, where he advocates for education reform and economic development, particularly for minoritized communities. He was a founding board member of Elevation Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to help at-risk youth obtain the education, skills, employment and community connections necessary to lead successful lives. Throughout his career, he has mentored countless individuals to help them grow and develop into productive citizens.

Dr. Johnson is optimistic about this upcoming academic year. He believes the foundation is solid, and he aspires to build on it. His vision is to bring staff, faculty and students back on campus safely, eliminate barriers to students' success, expand and strengthen community partnerships and increase enrollment. According to Dr. Johnson, IVC has amazing faculty, staff and administrators who are all committed to students' and the community's success, which makes all things are possible. He anticipates an incredible academic year full of accomplishments, and he extremely excited and humbled by this opportunity.

Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from Robert Morris University, a Master in Business Administration from Governors State University and a Doctorate in Education from Argosy University. He also served four honorable years in the United States Marine Corps. Dr. Johnson has two children and resides in the City of Imperial.
