Program Review is a systematic process for evaluating and improving academic programs.
It is conducted through self-evaluation and peer evaluation conducted by external
review. The emphasis of a Program Review is on assessing the curriculum and student
learning. The comprehensive analysis, which the review provides, is used to stimulate
curriculum and programmatic changes and to inform planning and budgeting processes
at various levels. The review cycle is dependent on the individual institution.
The program review process at Imperial Valley College is a cyclical comprehensive
evaluation that assesses a program's effectiveness, quality, rigor, and alignment
with institutional goals. It involves analyzing data, reflecting on successes and
challenges, identifying areas for improvement, and developing a strategic plan with
recommendations for enhancement. The goal is continuous improvement to enhance student
learning and success. The review process is to be broad based, accessible, and integrated
into other collegewide processes, such as accreditation, budgeting, and planning.
Imperial Valley College performs comprehensive program review assessments every 3rd
year; program review “updates” are conducted annually in preparation for the programs’
comprehensive reviews.
