These courses are aligned with the new CCN templates and meet both general education and major preparation articulation standards for the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. 

 

Introducing the Cal-GETC General Education Pattern 

What is Cal-GETC? 

Starting Fall 2025, the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) will replace the current CSU General Education Breadth (CSU GEB) and Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). Cal-GETC will serve as the single general education pattern for students transferring to both CSU and UC institutions. 

Key Points for Students:

  • New Transfer Students: Students beginning in Fall 2025 will follow the Cal-GETC pattern. 
  • Existing Students: Students with catalog rights to CSU GEB or IGETC can complete those patterns if they maintain continuous enrollment. 

Cal-GETC simplifies the transfer process and ensures consistency in general education requirements across systems. 

 

AB 928: Streamlining the Transfer Process 

Key Changes for Transfer Students: 

  1. Placement in Transfer Degrees: Students will automatically be placed on transfer degree paths that align with their career and academic goals. 
  2. Comprehensive Student Education Plans (CSEP): By the time students accumulate 15 units, a CSEP will be in place to guide their academic journey. 

These changes aim to make the transfer process more efficient and ensure students’ coursework aligns with their long-term goals.

These initiatives, mandated by AB 1111 and AB 928, are part of a statewide effort to: 

  • Eliminate barriers to transfer. 
  • Improve equitable access to higher education. 
  • Enhance credit mobility and degree completion rates. 

Through these changes, IVC strives to create a more seamless and supportive academic experience for students transitioning to four-year institutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Under Assembly Bill (AB) 1111, a statewide Common Course Numbering (CCN) system will be implemented across all California Community Colleges by July 1, 2027. This system will assign the same course numbers to comparable courses across colleges, making it easier for students to:
● Transfer to four-year institutions.
● Build cohesive academic plans.
● Reduce excess credit accumulation.
● Understand how courses align with degree requirements

Understanding these courses will help you avoid repeating courses. You might still see the old course numbers listed as prerequisites, but knowing the new common course numbers will help prevent any confusion.

Yes. Courses that have not been changed may continue to transfer under previously agreed-upon transfer agreements between two-year colleges and four-year colleges.

Courses identified as common between California Community Colleges are denoted with a “C” in the catalog number of the course (COMM 100 is now COMM C1000).

You will enroll in COMM C1000, which is equivalent to COMM100 and fulfills the same requirement. The repeat policy will also apply and the grade in COMM C1000 will replace the
original grade.
