EMT 105: (Course) offered in Fall and Spring
EMTP Paramedic Program:
The paramedic program allows qualified applicants to continue working while completing
their paramedic studies. Classroom time will be scheduled for 2 full days a week,
leaving the other days to study and/or work. Additional days will not be required
until the student is approved for clinical and field experience. IVC's BIOL 090 Anatomy
& Physiology for Health Occupations, or the equivalent or higher level Anatomy & Physiology,
will now be required. This prerequisite must be fulfilled with a C grade or higher
by the Fall semester.
Students will be notified of admission to the EMTP Paramedic Program via email. There will be an orientation held the first week of class in which all information and requirements will be provided and explained. Students are asked not to do anything until after the orientation meeting and information is provided.
Please note that students accepted into the EMTP Paramedic Program will be required to pass a health examination, background, and drug screening (information provided the first week of class).
During the last semester of the program and at least 3 weeks prior to applying for the National Registry exam, students will need to update the background check and drug screen clearance. Students who do not pass the background check may not be eligible for the state/national licensure exam. The goal of the Paramedic Program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the levels of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Responder.
More information on the paramedic licensure process for National Registry can be obtained from the California Emergency Medical Services Authority website: http://www.emsa.ca.gov/paramedic/default.asp For additional questions, contact the EMS Department Office at 760-355-6483, IVC Campus, Building 3200.
